9、theWesternAustraliancontext,theEnglishasanAdditionalLanguageorDialectATARcoursemakesspecificprovisionforthedevelopmentofSAEbyusersofAboriginalEnglish(AE)inabidialectalapproachbasedonthegrowingunderstandingofAboriginalEnglishasamarkerofidentityanddeeplevelculturalconceptualisations.TheEnglishasanAddi
10、tionalLanguageorDialectATARcourseprovidesopportunitiesforstudentstoengagereflectivelyandcriticallywithabroadrangeofspoken,writtenandmultimodaltexts,includingliteraryandnonliterarytexts,forexample,academic,everydayandworkplacetexts.Studentslearntocreate,individuallyandcollaboratively,increasinglycomp
11、lextextsfordifferentpurposesandaudiencesindifferentforms,modesandmedia.Unit1toUnit4developstudentsacademicEnglishskillsinordertopreparethemfortertiarystudy.Withineachunit,studentsregularlyusethelanguagemodesoflistening,speaking,reading,viewingandwritingtodeveloptheircommunicativeskillsinSAEforarange
12、ofpurposes,audiencesandcontexts.Eligibility Eligibility TheEnglishasanAdditionalLanguageorDialectATARcourseisavailabletostudentswhospeakEnglishasasecondlanguageorasanadditionallanguageordialect,andwhoseuseofSAEisrestricted.ThecoursemayprovideEnglishlanguageordialectsupportforstudentstotheendofYear11
13、.EnglishasanAdditionalLanguageorDialecteligibilitycriteriadonotapplytotheYear11periodofenrolment.ThespecificeligibilitycriteriaforenrolmentintoYear12inthecoursearesetoutbelow.Studentswhofulfilanyoftheseconditionsareeligibletoenrol.SuchstudentsneedtocompleteanEligibilityApplicationFormandforwardit,wi
