4、ependence At first,the colonial forces suffered many defeats.The colonial forces began to win important battles from the end of 1776,under the leadership of George Washington.During the war,in July,1776,colonist delegates voted to break away from Britain and approved the Declaration of Independence,
5、which became the fundamental documents of the future country.Part 3 The Consequences of the WarPart 3 The Consequences of the War On October 19,1781,the colonial army won a decisive victory at Yorktown.The two sides signed the Treaty of Paris in 1783,in which Britain recognized the independence of the colonies.The American Revolution gave birth to the first republic in the world.It is the first time that colonies defeated tyrannical oppressors and won independence,setting a good example for other colonies in the world.
