A team at the University of Florence in Italy measured memory, attention and language abilities in 63 children with multiple sclerosis and found they scored significantly worse, on average, than a group of healthy childr
3、en in the same age range. The results suggest it may make sense to use existing treatments earlier in young patients, said Pia Amato, an associate professor of neurology, in an e-mail yesterday. In adults, who make up 95 percent of all multiple sclerosis cases, the disease doesnt usually cause a dec
4、line in general intelligence or language ability, said Amato, the studys lead author. That doesnt seem to be true when the disease strikes children or teens, whose brains are still developing, she said.
